The Metroplex Arc User Group (MAUG) is an official sub-chapter of South Central Arc User Group
(SCAUG) which is a regional non-profit organization. The purpose of both SCAUG and MAUG is to act as a professional
forum that promotes the sharing and exchange of ideas, information and techniques concerning the utilization of Environmental
Systems Research Institute (ESRI) software among GIS professionals and other interested individuals.

is easy. Just become an active South Central Arc User Group (SCAUG) member! SCAUG membership cost $30 per year.
if you are not a SCAUG member you can join online www.scaug.org. Once you are a SCAUG member you are also a MAUG member with no additional fees.
Why become a MAUG member?In the near future MAUG will provide exclusive services to
our active MAUG members through our member sign in page. These will include resources and links to data and other services,
archived training sessions with easy to access features and a GIS classified section where you can advertise your services
or look for future employment.

The Metroplex Arc User Group has begun a new live on-line service for its members,
starting the 5th of June, 2009. This service will be called the Live Learning Series which will feature 20-30 minute
live training sessions focusing on ARCGIS applications and tools. During the sessions users will be able to email any questions
to the instructor and have them answered live.

1 July - Author Peter Croswell, The GIS Management Handbook book signing August
20th from 12:00 -1:00pm. Peter Croswell the author of The GIS Management Handbook will have a book signing on August 20th at the
University of North Texas from 12:00pm - 1:00pm in the lobby of the EESAT Building. Peter will have discounted copies of his
current publication available for purchase. Mr. Croswell will also be instructing the GIS Project Management workshop

29 June - MAUG Social, August 21st The next MAUG Social will be
August 21st directly after the MAUG meeting which will be held at the University of North Texas. The social will take place
at the Boiler Room located on the square in Denton. Appetizers and drinks will be taken care of by MAUG. This event will be
for active MAUG members only and wristbands will be required. Members must RSVP no later then the 18th of August. You can

14 June 2009 - Water/Wastewater/Stormwater SIG Meeting
The DFW area Water/Wastewater/Stormwater
SIG will have its first meeting on Wednesday, June 24 2009 at 9:30 am in the City of Highland Village's Council
Chambers. David Wachal an ESRI Water/Wastewater consultant will discuss current GIS implementation patterns in Water/Wastewater
Utilities focusing on GIS for decision making, disseminating GIS across the organization, mobile GIS, and integration with
enterprise systems. David will also highlight the ESRI Water Resources Center and demonstrate a few of the downloadable templates
provided. Following the presentation, the group will discuss current GIS implementation strategies of participating utilities,
GIS challenges within Water/Wastewater utilities, and future objectives of the special interest group. This

On
Sunday July 12th at 8:00 pm, MAUG will be hosting a Social at the Rock Bottom Brewery in downtown San Diego. Stop by
and visit with your fellow MAUG members. Come by, have some food, a couple of drinks and let MAUG pick up the tab. This event

19 May 2009 - MAUG August Training Classes Finalized.
MAUG
has finalized the classes scheduled the week of 17 August 2009. The classes include three that are hands on in the computer
lab, SQL 2005 Database Management cost $450, Spatial Analysis cost $350, Advance Server class cost $600, and finally
a URISA Certified 8 hour workshop "GIS Program Management" The MAUG board has authorized that MAUG pick up
85% of the class cost for our members. This will leave our members to only pay $30.00 per member. MAUG has also authorized that
the board pick up %50 of the books for the Spatial Analysis Class which include ESRI Guide to GIS Analysis Vol 1 & 2 and
GIS Tutorial II: Spatial Analysis Workbook. Class space is limited, register early to get your seat. Please view

17 May 2009 - MAUG to Make GISP Points Easier to Collect.
On August 19th 2009, MAUG will provide an opportunity for our members to collect GISP points. MAUG will arrange a volunteer event
where our members can volunteer there skills and time and in return earn GISP points. MAUG will also provide written
documentation for any members that attend this event. Additional details will be posted as they become available.
12 May 2009 - North Central Texas Council of Governemnts and ESRI sign on as hosts for the North
Central Texas GIS Day/GIS Job Fair.
North Central Texas Council of Governments along
with ESRI signed on as hosts for the North Central Texas GIS Day along with the University of North Texas and MAUG.
This will be the third year NCTCOG has participated and have been one of the hosts. North Central Texas GIS Day/GIS Job Fair,
that will take place Tuesday November 17, 2009 at the University of North Texas Environmental Education, Science and
Technology Building.
5 May 2009 - MAUG lays out framework for mentoring program.
MAUG
now has a new Outreach Coordinator (Rebecca Fong) what will be focusing on a MAUG Mentoring Program for K-12 schools.

5 May 2009 - MAUG Board approves Scholarship Program
On
April 24th the MAUG Board approved a Scholarship Program that will provide at least a $250 cash prize to one University of
North Texas Undergraduate GIS student. The program details are in the process of being finalized and will be posted in the
near future.
